Extended Hours of Work Agreement – EMS Staff

Subject: Extended hours of work agreement
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The union met with representatives of the Region to discuss the extension of the Extended hours of work agreement which expires 11:59 pm on November 25, 2017. If no new agreement can be reached by this date, hours of work/scheduling will go back to what currently exists in the collective agreement, (8 hour shifts).
The union met with the region on October 17th, 2017 in an attempt to reach an agreement on this issue, but unfortunately, we were unable to come out of this meeting with an Extended hours of work agreement. Both parties have agreed to meet again November 21st to continue talks on this very important issue, and have agreed to share our ideas/proposals prior to this date in order to have a productive meeting and make best use of the day.
As a result of not having an agreement to date, the region is obligated to inform affected employees of a possible change in hours of work and scheduling. The region will also have to work with the payroll department in advance, in the event this change occurs.
We know this is a very important issue to you and as your representatives remain committed to trying to work out an agreement with the region that addresses all your concerns on this issue.
The local has put together a newsletter that provides detailed information about the outstanding issues and challenges we face in these negotiations and will give you a better understanding where we are at heading into the November 21st negotiations.
